On Thursday afternoon, Kaleb went to stay with Nana who is on vacation. Our weekend started early Friday afternoon when Nana calls me at work to tell me Kaleb is running a fever and is not acting like himself. Although she was planned on keeping him another night I couldn't help but go see my poor baby. When I got to the house, he had just had some Motrin and was doing just fine. He was running around and playing with all of Nana's toys. After an hour went by he got more and more fussy until I could tell he was running a fever again. I stole my baby from Nana since I couldn't bear to leave him sick and headed home. He was in and out of sleep all the way home. His left eye was beginning to swell up too. Here he is on the drive...
When we got home, he just held onto my neck and wouldn't let go. I sat on the couch hugging him for awhile and he still would not move. Finally I got the thermometer and took his temperature....105! All I could think of to do was get him in the bath, so that's what we did. He didn't like it, but he was so weak, he couldn't fight me about it. Dada came home, got him out of the bath, and cuddled with him on the couch some more. After the bath and some more Tylenol, the fever was down to 102.
Finally we decided to just put him in bed even though it was only 6:30. He laid down willingly, but tossed and turned all night long. He would cry and whimper, but did not want to be held. When we would pick him up, he would cry and tell us "ni ni" and lean back toward his bed. I made a call to the Texas Children's on call nurse who definitely thought he needed to be seen, but suggested if at all possible to wait until morning since the weather was so bad. So we kept him medicated every couple of hours throughout the night as he would wake up just to try to keep him comfortable. He didn't get out of bed until 8am, still crying, fever of 102, and a really swolen left eye. We had hoped to get an appointment with our on call doctor early Saturday morning, but no such luck. For some reason, the answering service never started answering calls for our doctor. So after talking with the Texas Children's nurse once again, she advised we bring him in and said she'd get things ready for him. I had a job fair to go to, so Kevin loaded him up and headed down to the hospital. After I left the job fair, I met up with them in his room. An hour and a half with a 16 month old locked in a room and nothing to do was not fun for Dada. Here they were playing with the light when I walked in the room.
The doctor said he has ear infections and the eye was due to allergies (conjunctivitis). I was only there for about five minutes when the nurse came in with the discharge papers and prescription, so off we went. The weather was horrible and had been all of the night, so it was a slow drive home. When we got close to our neighborhood, there was a police car blocking the main street in, so I had to go the back way. I sat and watched a lot of cars look at the street and turn around, but after I saw a couple of trucks and SUV's go through it, I decided to follow. I made it all the way down Oak Forest and got stuck behind a couple of cars who had stalled. I sat there for a few minutes waiting for them to move when a fire truck started coming up behind me with its siren on. I pulled into the driveway next to me to get out of the way and luckily a nice lady lived there! There was no way I would have been able to turn onto Gardenia, so the lady told me I could leave my car there until it cleared up. So I grabbed the umbrella and Kaleb and we walked home! (luckily it was only about three houses away!) Kevin had gone to get Kaleb's medicine and was coming from the other way, but wasn't sure he could make it either. He parked and walked to our corner and decided to take his chances and he made it! This was the front of our house..

All in all, it was a wild weekend and at this point it was only early Saturday afternoon! Kaleb got to feeling better and played chase with Dada for a little while. You can tell at the end of the video how tired and groggy he really is...

After playing chase and getting a bath, Kaleb decided to help Mama with the dishes! Gotta teach them early!
Today Kaleb was feeling a little better. We got out to do a little shopping and take a bike ride. Here are Kaleb and Dada brushing their teeth before bed...

Mama and Kaleb on the boat! Every time the boat would start, he would immediately lay down on my chest. When we would stop, he'd pop right back up. He did this the entire time he was on the boat.
